Would that all would approach the Gospel with such joy and enthusiasm. There are people in every congregation I have served who decry as disruptive the little children who run up to the altar rail and fling themselves onto the kneeler, holding up their hands long before I even get to them with the bread, with big, eager smiles on their faces. The adults don't like it because the children don't "understand" anything about the Eucharist, they say. Why are we not more of us running, and dancing to meet our Lord in our worship? That would be true reverence, to me, and true understanding.
